  1. January minutes were distributed and approved.
  2. We discussed tasks we face for the remainder of the year.
    a. Every certificate and AAS Degree has to publish program outcomes. That process is underway, but much work remains to be done.
    b. Susanne, Kendra Essary and Rick created a template/form for Related Instruction through embedded method. PT programs will have to submit these forms (by spring of 2007), and our committee will only review Related Instruction forms where there are
questions. There is another document that will be required of programs with embedded Related Instruction, namely the instructor qualifications required for teaching courses with Related Instruction embedded.
    c. There is a sub-group meeting to solve problems with the catalogue. The intent is to start publishing all AAS and certificate outcomes in the catalog. The 06-07 catalog will have the first set. For 07-08 the plan is to have all outcomes available and to get all program descriptions in Banner so that the catalogue information will be accurate, up to date and have a consistent format.
    d. There are currently several AAS degrees that are out of compliance (by requiring fewer than 90 credits or by counting courses below the 100 level as part of the 90 credits). Those programs will need to submit the changes needed to get their programs into compliance and appear before us by the April meeting.
  3. Cece Cutsforth brought proposed changes to the Graphic Design AAS degree requirements. She proposed moving computer software courses from the second year to the first year; increase required Drawings; and moved and/or eliminated additional courses to meet new industry demands. The revisions change total credits from 104 to 101.
The proposed changes were approved by the committee with a change to the wording for gen ed requirements.
  4. Carol Bruneau brought proposed changes to the Emergency TeleCommunicator Certificate.
The committee responded positively to the proposed program, but before we can approve the new requirements, additional information needs to be provided, particularly in Related Instruction, and the required courses need to be developed and approved.
  5. Elizabeth Metcalf brought forward a proposal for a new certificate in Kitchen and Bath Design, 64-65 total credits.
The committee approved the certificate requirements with amendments and pending approval of the four new courses (being reviewed 2/1/06). In addition, Elizabeth and Steve Ward will send a “cleaned up” version of the course list to Susanne for 06 catalog; plus the Related Instruction course list template.
  6. Elizabeth Metcalf brought proposed changes to the Certificate of Interior Furnishings.
Revisions were made in course offerings. CAS 133 and CAS 104 were dropped from the certificate and ARCH 100 and ARCH 110 were added. Total credits changed from 40 to 41.
The committee approved the proposed certificate requirement changes pending approval of the one new course.
  7. Elizabeth Metcalf brought proposed changes to the AAS degree in Interior Design. Revisions made with recommendation from their Advisory Board and to keep in compliance with National Kitchen and Bath Association certification process. Total credits changed from 92 to 98-101.
The committee approved the proposed degree requirement changes as amended and pending approval of the three new courses.
  8. Elizabeth Metcalf brought proposed changes to the AAS degree in Architectural Design and Drafting. Revisions made with recommendation from their Advisory Board and to keep in compliance with National Kitchen and Bath Association certification process. In addition, Math 95 was replaced with Math 65 as the math competency for this AAS.
The committee approved the proposed degree requirement changes as amended and pending approval of the two new courses.
  9. Jan Abushakrah brought forward one course change in the Gerontology degree and the Gerontology certificate. Revision was to replace PHL 205 with PHL 207.
The committee approved the proposed changes to the degree and certificate as amended.
  10. Richard Willebrand brought forward proposed changes to the Facilities Maintenance Technology certificate and AAS Degree. Revisions include the deleting of PSY 101 and PHY 101 from the certificate requirement; replacing them with TE courses. Rationale is to give certificate candidates a higher, more employable level of skills by including two more advanced,
core classes in the shorter certificate program.
The committee approved the proposed changes to the certificate and AAS degree as amended.
  11. Susanne explained to the committee what is meant by Career Pathways—as used in the PAVTEC program (showing HS students how to move through PAVTEC classes through degrees and certificates from PCC). The term is also being used in relation to reaching out to the current workforce with our existing certificates or new certificates created out of existing certificates. The idea is to see if a new certificate could be created that would be a stepping stone to the existing certificate (with a sub-set of the requirements for the existing certificate), thus representing a stepping stone to the career option opened by the existing certificate.
