Members Present: Susanne Christopher, Lucinda Eshleman, Amy Alday-Murray, Linda Gettmann, Tony Zable, Kevin Lien, Pat Lewis, Dave Stout

1. Motion to recommend approval of the Fitness Technology Certificate credit change passed unanimously. The reduction in credits will allow students to complete the certificate in one year. A program application process will be implemented to include the requirement that students must have successfully completed MTH 65 and WR 121.
2. Motion to recommend approval of the proposed changes to the Fitness Technology degree passed unanimously. The revision to the degree program will allow students to complete course work in a two-year time frame. A program application process will be implemented to include the requirement that students must have successfully completed MTH 65 and WR 121.
3. Motion to recommend approval of the proposed changes to the Microelectronics Technology degree to take effect spring term 2004 passed unanimously. The revision reduces the chemistry requirement by eliminating CH 223 to match industry as well as degree requirements of other comparable programs.
4. Motion to recommend approval of the proposed changes to the prerequisites for the Veterinary Technology degree passed unanimously. CH 100 and BI 101, which used to be part of the program sequence will become program prerequisites.
5. Motion to recommend approval of the proposed distribution requirements to the ASOT in Business degree passed unanimously.
Proposed distribution:
1. Oral component of the distribution requirements specifies SP 111 (3 credits),
2. Computer Applications portion of the General Requirements specifies one or two courses from BA 131 (4 cr.), CAS 133 (3 cr.), CAS 170 (3 cr.) or CAS 171 (3 cr.), and
3. the distribution requirement would need to be met with courses from the Associate of Science distribution list (see page 17 of the current catalogue).
6. Motion to recommend approval of the proposed changes to the Early Childhood Education degree passed unanimously. The program title change to Early Childhood Education and Family Studies as it reflects what is currently appropriate for the field. The program changes are motivated by the current training and education requirements of Oregon’s Child Care Division and the results of the ECE department program review.
7. Motion to recommend approval of the proposed changes to the AAS Aviation Science-Helicopter degree passed unanimously. There is a change of one credit in one of the required courses in the program core.
8. Motion to recommend approval of the proposed changes to the one-year certificate in Welding Technology passed unanimously. The program has been redesigned resulting in a change in the number of credits. The shift is a result of the need to increase math and science in a contextual format to meet requirements of the Welding NSF grant.
9. Motion to recommend approval of the proposed changes to the two-year certificate in Welding Technology passed unanimously. The program has been redesigned resulting in a change in the number of credits. The shift is a result of the need to increase math and science in a contextual format to meet requirements of the Welding NSF grant.
10. Motion to recommend approval of the proposed changes to the AAS Degree in Welding Technology passed unanimously. The program has been redesigned resulting in a change in the number of credits. The shift is a result of the need to increase math and science in a contextual format to meet requirements of the Welding NSF grant.
11. Susanne proposed to form a sub-committee of Degrees and Certificates to do some preparatory work on requirements for our transfer degrees. What do we want the degrees to mean? What are the appropriate course sequences?
This work would dovetail with the recommendations of the EAC subcommittee which is looking at recommendations regarding moving from 3 to 4 credits and hopes to put forward a recommendation this spring.
After some discussion, Susanne proposed that we take our April meeting to look at some scenarios.
Guy recommended that we also have a joint meeting with the Assessment Committee to see how our core outcomes are currently being met and how the changes we propose would connect with the assessment efforts currently underway.
