Our leader convened our meeting promptly at 3:30 pm.
CISE E-Commerce Certificate
Originally approved about 3 years ago. Changes recommended here are minor. Same total credit hours. Major change is to add a substitute of a gen ed elective for the formerly required speech class (SP 111).
This is an advanced level certificate. A majority of students going into the program already have BA or BS degrees. CIS 277 O and 277 T are new requirements. These are both advanced Oracle classes. This brings the program into line with other programs in the state. CIS 234 S has already been approved by Curriculum Committee.
It was moved to recommend approval of these changes. Motion passed unanimously.
Building Construction Technology: Construction Management Option
We currently have 12 credits of co-op ed in the summer. This has not proved to be feasible. Change is to cut those to 3 credits and replace the 9 with:
- BCT 207 Construction Job Costing
- BCT 132 Computer Applications for Construction
- BCT 206 Sustainable Construction Practices (for further details, see the handout distributed at the meeting – Program Revision Completion Form)
It was moved to recommend approval of these changes. Motion passed unanimously.
Program Revision in Criminal Justice (Aaron Olson)
PSY 215 Human Development will be replaced by CJA 101 Cultural Diversity in Criminal Justice Professions.
This discussion was tabled, pending arrival of more information.
CAS and OS Certificate

AAS Administrative Assistant Office Management
The idea is to expand the coverage of OS 240 Filing and Records Management and make it worth 4 credits instead of the current 3.This would then in turn mean that each program increases the total number of hours required by one.
The CCOG has been changed to include digital file keeping and recording, in addition to all the old outcomes, so this is a serious addition to the course outcomes and worthy of the additional credit. It reflects current professional practice, which more and more handles file management electronically.

Continued discussion about the extent to which Gen Ed electives do or do not allow students any choice.
Right now it appears that the degree requirements for Criminal Justice leave no course selection choices up to students in the program. (all “elective” courses are limited to specific required courses).
Kate Dins is the dean in question here. The consensus of the committee was that the list of Gen Ed required courses might be too narrowly defined. We agreed that Aaron and his dept. chair (and perhaps Kate Dins) meet with Susanne and Guy Sievert to see if a slightly more flexible set of courses from which students choose might not be a more palatable option. We welcome Aaron back to the meeting on 2/19 to give us their best thinking in addressing our concerns (options for students in Gen Ed being too restricted as currently written).
CAS/OS Website Development Certificate (Art Schneider)
Changes recommended here have been brought forward from the advisory committee and reflect changes in the profession. See handout from dept. for details of the changes.
Dreamweaver has become the single required authoring platform, and Frontpage has been relegated to the status of elective.

Nursing (Claudia Michel)
Proposal to replace HC 101 with NUR 104 (with a concomitant reduction in credits from 3 to 2).

Gerontology Certificate (Jan Abushakrah)
Jan walked us through the changes proposed in the requirements for Gerontology. Courses have been moved around, courses no longer active eliminated.
One change not covered in the handout is:
Removal of SP 105 and SOC 240 from restrictive electives list.
It was moved to recommend approval of these changes. Motion passed unanimously.
HS Diploma Requirements (Linda Huddle and Linda Gettmann)
See handout from the Linda’s. It nicely contrasts current and proposed requirements.
It was moved to recommend approval of these changes. Motion passed unanimously.
Nota bene:the Linda’s promised to bring the details of specific courses meeting the new requirement categories to a future meeting.
Nuts and Bolts of the Committee’s Work:
Moved to set up a sub-committee to come up with a form to show clearly the contrast between current requirements and recommended changes in a way that makes the proposed changes more transparent to committee members. Motion passed unanimously.
