WR: Writing and English Instructor Qualifications

For ENG, WR 115 or higher and IRW 115

Education: MFA, MA or PhD in English, Literature, or Rhetoric/Composition, OR an MA or PhD in an interdisciplinary field with a minimum of 30 graduate quarter credit-hours in one or a combination of English, Literature, or Rhetoric/Composition.

Experience: Have taught at least four college-level composition classes or have equivalent college classroom experience through a mentoring or internship program.

For RD 90, and WR 90, IRW 90, and RD 115 and Designated DE classes

Master’s Degree in an appropriate educational field (for example, special/ developmental/ adult education, reading, writing, math, or English) AND experience working with underprepared students (DE Math or English)

OR

Bachelor’s Degree in an appropriate educational field (for example, special/ developmental/ adult education, reading, writing, or English) AND three years equivalent full-time teaching experience in reading, writing, or English within grade 9 through adult (DE English)

Provisional Approval and Demonstrated Competency for IRW115, WR 115, WR 121, or WR 122

Instructors holding a Master’s degree in a Language Arts field other than English are required to engage in professional development via a mentored Provisional Approval model before approval via Demonstrated Competency can be conferred.
