HIM – Health Info Management Instructor Qualifications

Full-time HIM Instructor Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience, master’s degree preferred AND current credential as a Registered Health Information Technician or Registered Health Information Administrator AND three years’ work experience in the Health Information Management profession.

Part-time faculty requirements: an Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Health Information Management AND current credential as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) AND three years work experience in the Health Information Management profession.

The below HIM courses have qualifications that differ from the p/t faculty minimum requirements due to their specialized content:

HIM 128, HIM 129
  • Meets the qualifications as a biology instructor
HIM 270, HIM 273 and HIM 275
  • Current credential as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or
  • Acceptable coding credential (CCS, CCS-P, CPC), AND three years coding experience using the coding systems covered in courses.
