CMET Instructor Qualifications prior to January 2022

Instructors for all courses except CMET 112 (Technical Algebra / Trigonometry) and CMET 123 (Technical Algebra with Analytic Geometry) shall meet the requirements stated in a, b, c, or d below:

  1. hold a master degree in engineering or engineering technology (or hold a master degree in mathematics or a science field, and have completed at least 30 quarter hours of upper division credit that would apply toward a bachelor degree in engineering or engineering technology) and have a minimum of three years of full-time nonteaching experience in engineering or engineering technology.  For CMET132 and CMET214, a master degree in surveying or geomatics, and a minimum of three years of full-time nonteaching experience in surveying may be substituted.   OR
  2. hold a bachelor degree in engineering or engineering technology (or hold a bachelor degree in mathematics or a science field, and have completed at least 30 quarter hours of upper division credit that would apply toward a bachelor degree in engineering or engineering technology) and have a minimum of four years of full-time nonteaching experience in engineering or engineering technology.  For CMET132 and CMET214, a bachelor degree in surveying or geomatics, and a minimum of four years of full-time nonteaching experience in surveying may be substituted.   OR
  3. hold an associate degree in engineering or engineering technology, and have a minimum of five years of full-time nonteaching experience in engineering or engineering technology.   OR
  4. have a high level of demonstrable competency gained through a combination of study and/or teaching experience and/or professional performance. This criterion will be used only for the courses listed below, because of the specific skills taught:
    • CMET 113, 241, 233, 237: CAD drafting
    • CMET 132, 214: land surveying
    • CMET 227: electrical fundamentals
    • CMET 254: preparation for job-seeking
    • CMET 280A: cooperative work experience
    • CMET 223: project management
    • CMET 133, 211, 228: lab sections only

Instructors for CMET 112 and CMET 123 shall meet one of the above sets of criteria with the exception that the experience component shall be waived. Alternately, instructors for these courses may hold a master or bachelor degree in mathematics or a science field, and the requirement for additional engineering course work shall be waived.

Instructors shall have completed their education at institutions accredited by commissions associated with or similar to the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities.
