Council of Science Editors (CSE) Citation Styles

What is CSE?

CSE (Council of Science Editors) style uses three different systems for citations: name-year, citation-sequence, and citation-name. According to the CSE Manual, all three systems are valid. Check with your instructor to see if there is a system they prefer, then pick one and stick with it.

Name-Year System

This is the simplest of the three systems. For both in-text and end of text citations, the name of the author is followed by the year of publication.
