SAP information

Two standards

PCC has established two standards that students must meet to demonstrate Satisfactory Academic Progress: Students must achieve a cumulative 2.0 or higher GPA and successfully complete two-thirds (66.67%) of attempted credits each term.

There are both academic impacts and financial aid impacts on students not achieving satisfactory progress.

PCC implements many strategies to aid student success. The Academic Standards for Satisfactory Academic Progress (ASAP) provide a standardized pathway for the college to assist students in maintaining successful academic progress.

The Academic Standards of Satisfactory Academic Progress policy pertains to currently enrolled degree-seeking students who have declared a major.

The policy defines four levels of Academic Standing and procedures for each that the student is responsible for. Each level represents an escalating level of concern and responsibility.

Students not making satisfactory academic progress may be denied early registration opportunities or continued admission.

Academic Warning

This is the level occurring the term after you do not meet standards.

  • You will receive an email notifying you of your Academic Warning status.
  • Read this email carefully and follow directions to access resources.

Good Standing can be regained the following term if standards are met.

Academic Probation

This level is reached after a term on Academic Warning if you fail again to meet the standards.

  • A hold will be placed on your account preventing you from registering for the next term.
  • You will receive an email notifying you of your Academic Probation status.
  • You will be instructed to work with your academic advisor or counselor to develop a Learning Contract.
  • You must work with your instructors to obtain a mid-term progress report that will be shared with your advisor or counselor.

Academic Suspension

Academic Suspension occurs if you fail to meet standards for a third term in a row.

  • If you have already enrolled for classes for the next term, you will be automatically dropped.
  • You will receive an email and written letter notifying you of your Academic Suspension status.
  • You will be suspended from PCC for one term.
  • If you wish to return to PCC you must:
    • Complete the Re-Entry Process, or
    • Appeal for Exception due to extenuating circumstances.
Re-entry process

Students who have been placed on Academic Suspension and wish to return to PCC must meet with their academic advisor before the deadlines listed below. Appointments fill up quickly: we recommend that you call your advising center when the class schedule goes online to ensure that you meet the deadline and have best choices for registration.

At this appointment, your academic standing will be reviewed and your advisor or counselor will discuss specific strategies for your success. If you do not complete the re-entry process by the deadline listed below for each term, you will need to wait until the next term to start the process. In general, the deadline for re-entry is one month prior to the start of the term you wish to re-enter.

How to apply for re-entry:

  1. Make an appointment by the re-entry deadline for the term you wish to enroll.
  2. Fill out a re-entry form and bring it with you to your appointment.
Appeal for exception

A student placed on Academic Suspension due to extenuating circumstances may appeal. Extenuating circumstances that may be considered for an appeal include: documented personal illness or accident, serious illness or death within immediate family, or other circumstances beyond the reasonable control of the student.

How to request an appeal:

  1. Submit the academic suspension appeal form by the deadline listed below.
