Community Engagement Advocates are here for you!

Want to get involved and volunteer on and/or off campus? Community Engagement Advocates (CEAs) are here to help! CEAs are tabling Monday and Wednesday afternoons at both Cascade and Sylvania Campuses. They are available to answer questions about Community-Based Learning, Community Service Work Study Positions, and volunteering in general. PCC students who are interested in becoming a CEA can visit passionimpact.org/ceaprogram for more information.

NEW POSTINGS

Below are 7 NEW POSTINGS from these 7 organizations: Community Vision, Volunteers of America Oregon, Sexual Assault Resource Center, Active Children Portland, New Avenues for Youth, SOLVE, Johnson Creek Watershed Council, and NW Regional Education Service District.

1. Community Vision: Seeking Motivated Volunteer Mentors!

As a volunteer, you will develop a fun, safe, and engaging relationship with a young adult who experiences disability. Dream Builders Alliance is a grass roots effort to provide empowerment, education, and community opportunities to transition-aged youth, 16-21. Young adults in this program are ready to get out into the community, contributing their wide range of goals, interests, and dreams with those at work, school, home, and you!

Each meet up will create a unique experience based on mutual interests to build towards their dreams and goals. Mentors serve for 6 months, dedicating 2-5 hours a week.

A note about children: Since our FRN classrooms have a maximum of 6-8 children, you may not be able to interact with a child directly during this project, but you will certainly be able to observe and support their experience.

3. Sexual Assault Resource Center: Become an Advocate for Survivors of Sexual Assault

Volunteer advocates are often the first line of contact for individuals seeking emotional support, information, resources, and medical and legal advocacy around sexual assault and exploitation in Washington and Multnomah Counties. Advocates provide these through in-person response at safe locations such as hospitals, police departments and youth shelters.

As a Support Line Advocate you will:

  • Positively impact our community by providing confidential support services to individuals impacted by sexual violence.
  • Contribute to the mission of SARC, working collaboratively with staff, volunteers and community partners.
  • Gain advanced training around the dynamics of sexual assault and child commercial sexual exploitation (CSEC), as well as practical crisis response and supportive advocacy skills.

See post for Qualifications. SARC is invested in providing services to all members of our community. Bi-lingual and bi-cultural individuals are strongly encouraged to apply.

4. Active Children Portland: Register to play in our 5v5 Tournament (Saturday, Feb 26th)

Play AND learn about becoming a Coach-Mentor with Active Children Portland. Participate in our Coaches and Friends 5v5 Tournament at Providence Park on February 26th, 2017 from 12-5 pm.

Active Children Portland, along with support from Stand Together and the Portland Timbers, is hosting a 5v5 tournament on the Providence Park field for all of our current and future coaches and their friends and family. As an organization, we are aiming to help 2,000 youth in our Fall 2017 soccer season, and with this growth comes a need for coaches. This event will help us expand our reach and build relationships with more people in more communities around Portland, all while having fun playing soccer on the nicest pitch in Portland. Timbers’ and Thorns’ players will be making appearances throughout the day as well.

We would like to open this event to anyone interested in learning more about our programs and what it means to be a Coach-Mentor, work with Portland area social service partners, and become a part of the Active Children Portland community.
