Study and Sleep during this Overnight Host Volunteer Opportunity!

Every evening of the year, we are in need of one Overnight Host volunteer to stay overnight at our Goose Hollow Family Shelter from 7:30pm to 7:30am. With the company and support of an Overnight Shelter Coordinator, Overnight Host volunteers sleep at the shelter and provide support to our families during their evening and morning routine.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Stay overnight at our Goose Hollow Family Shelter from 7:30pm to 7:30am. The shelter is located at 1838 SW Jefferson, Portland, OR 97201.
• Socialize with families and play with kids
• Assist with the end of the day routine: Set up sleeping cubicles and mats; set up sitting area; prep kitchenette for continental breakfast; and assist families with any personal needs
• Assist with the morning routine: Help wake up guests; prepare continental breakfast; put away sleeping cubicles and sitting area; and motivate families to leave shelter by 7:30am

About the Organization

Portland Homeless Family Solutions (PHFS) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to empower homeless families with children move back into stable housing, and help them stay there long-term. PHFS offers rapid re-housing services; shelter services at our night shelter, Goose Hollow Family Shelter and at our day shelter, Thirteen Salmon Family Center; and we host life skills classes designed to help families learn new skills that they can use to help them retain their permanent housing.

Volunteers are critical stakeholders in PHFS. Our 400 volunteers contribute over 10,500 hours a year, which equates to 5 full-time staff members. Thank you for taking the time to consider being part of our team!
