VOA Oregon: Support children in trauma-informed nursery

Posted by

Support children in trauma-informed nursery.

VOA Oregon, in partnership with Providence’s My Little Waiting Room, provides drop-in childcare centers which are free, licensed, respite care for children up to age 12 while families access services for medical, legal, or domestic violence crises. We have locations at Providence Portland, Providence St. Vincent, and Gateway Domestic Violence Resources Center.

Our Trauma-Informed Child Interventionist volunteers engage in safe and fun activities like free play, arts and crafts, story time and more. Volunteers learn about child development and crisis intervention and form a special bond with children. You can participate in established activities or try your hand at curriculum development. This program has something new every day as you meet new children and clients, and get to know recurring visitors, as well.

Shifts are available Monday-Friday between the hours of 9 am and 4 pm. Volunteers commit to a weekly shift for 3-4 hours for a minimum of 3 months.
