All students interested in social work as their major must make formal application to the Social Work Program. The purpose of this formal application process is to help students and faculty be assured of the suitability of a student’s decision to choose social work as their major. Social work course work generally requires a minimum of five (5) semesters. Students must consider this prior to (1) changing majors and/or (2) transferring from another institution.
Many students expect to complete a baccalaureate degree within four years. In order to complete the social work major within this time frame, the student is well advised to submit their application to the Social Work Program on or before January 30 of their sophomore year. Transfer students will not be held to the sophomore year deadline, but should see a social work advisor as soon as is feasibly possible.
