Equation Editor in Desire2Learn using Firefox on a Macintosh

There is a known issue in which the Equation Editor interface will not work properly in Desire2Learn when using Firefox on a Macintosh computer. This is the only scenario in which we recommend that Mac users use an alternative browser such as Safari for accessing Desire2Learn.

Internet Explorer

Internet Explorer 8 - "Navigation to the webpage was canceled."

Some content in Desire2Learn will be linked from other sites on the web, such as when instructors embed YouTube videos in their courses. Internet Explorer will prompt you to allow this outside content to be displayed when you first encounter it.

A pop-up will state: "Do you want to view only the webpage content that was delivered securely?" To view the outside content, you must select "No."

If you unintentionally pressed "Yes" in response to that prompt, you can change the setting in the Internet Options.

  1. Click on the Tools menu item from the menu bar in Internet Explorer 8.
  2. Choose Internet Options from the menu.
  3. Choose the Security tab.
  4. Click on the Custom Level button towards the bottom of the Security tab.
  5. In the Security Settings - Internet Zone box, scroll down about halfway to the options for "Display mixed content" and select "Enable."
  6. Click OK, confirm the change when prompted, and click OK again to close the Internet Options box.

You may have to reload the page or the browser for the change to take effect.

Internet Explorer 9 - "Only secure content is displayed."

When outside content is present on secure pages while using Internet Explorer 9, a pop-up will appear at the bottom of the screen that states, "Only secure content is displayed." To enable the content on a one-time basis, choose the option, "Show all content."

To always display this content, you can change the setting in the Internet Options.

  1. Click on the Tools menu item from the menu bar in Internet Explorer 9.

Internet Explorer 9 Compatibility View

Internet Explorer 9 isn't fully compatible with the current version of Desire2Learn. IE9 users may encounter issues entering text in text fields in Desire2Learn and other related issues. To resolve this, enable Internet Explorer 9's Compatibility View for Desire2Learn.

  1. Click on the Tools menu item from the menu bar in Internet Explorer 9.
  2. Choose Compatibility View Settings from the menu.
  3. In the Compatibility View Settings window, type "online.pcc.edu" in the "Add this website:" field and click "Add."

The website address should then appear in the box below with the label, "Websites you've added to Compatibility View."

Google Chrome

Google Chrome has a few known issues in Desire2Learn.

"Duplicate Headers" Error

Sometimes when downloading a file in Desire2Learn using Google Chrome, students will get an error message regarding "duplicate headers." The only known solution to this is to use a different browser.

Quizzes

Students may also run into an issue in which the Submit Quiz button is not displaying while they are taking a quiz. If you encounter this issue, it is recommended that you make sure your answers are saved and that you have time to finish the quiz. Open Desire2Learn in another browser and try to re-enter the quiz by clicking Continue Quiz and then submit the quiz.

Safari

Turn Off the Pop-Up Blocker

Safari doesn't natively allow you choose which sites to block pop-ups on. It only features on or off settings. It is recommended that you turn off your popup blocker while using Safari to access Desire2Learn and turn it back on when you are done accessing Desire2Learn.

1. Click on the Safari menu item from the menu bar at the top of the screen.

2. Click on the checked "Block Pop-Up Windows" option to turn off the pop-up blocker. If there is no checkmark to the left of the "Block Pop-Up Windows" option, then your pop-up blocker is already turned off.

Repeat these steps to turn the pop-up blocker back on after you are done accessing Desire2Learn.
