Develops awareness of how personal experiences, belief systems and values impact work with children and families. Examines the impact of cultural, linguistic, and class identities and histories on inter-relationships in divers populations. Applies techniques for incorporating other peoples histories, values and belief systems into child-and family-centered practices.

THE CURRICULUM/GenEd COMMITTEE DISCUSSED ITS PURPOSE AND AGREED TO THE FOLLOWING:
In the intellectual and academic higher educational setting within the bounds of Portland Community College, which is ultimately responsible to the Oregon Board of Higher Education and further, the National Educational Board for accreditation, the Curriculum Committee is one important cog in the total process. The committee, which includes faculty with extensive educational, academic and personal experiences that increase the positive discussions concerning issues brought before it, should serve as the eyes and ears for those individuals seeking recommendation of proposed courses and other course changes.
While this committee generally cannot ultimately disapprove of said proposals, it can and should act in an inclusive, welcoming, professional manner, as a sounding board when offering suggestions and counsel to said individual/s.
