Beaverton School District: Mountainside High School Homework Club Tutors Needed

Are you interested in becoming a tutor? Mountainside High School needs your help! A new high school has just opened in the Beaverton School District! Mountain Side High School is brand new, and currently serves 9th and 10th graders only. Unfortunately, this means we do not have access to upper-classmen to assist with tutoring and mentoring students in need of help. In an effort to find a solution for this problem, we have created a Homework Club, geared towards helping students feel more confident in their work and their education!

If you are interested in volunteering your time to this club, we meet on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 2:45pm – 4:15pm. We are looking for tutors to commit to one day a week with our students. This club is in need of tutors for all subjects, however we are especially in need of math and science tutors.

Tutoring is such a wonderful opportunity to impact the lives of young students. If you volunteer your time to our club, you will be doing very fulfilling work, and you will be assisting us greatly!

The facilities department at the Portland Shriners Hospital is looking for volunteers with an interest in risk management and emergency preparedness to support our mission to provide expert orthopedic care to kids, regardless of their family’s ability to pay.

Volunteers will work with our Security and Risk Manager to support the facilities department, emergency planning, emergency drills, clerical functions, and will cover our main switchboard and Help Desk briefly during staff breaks.

Volunteers should be able to commit to a regular, weekly 3-hour morning shift on a weekday; should have excellent organizational skills; should have experience with or be willing to learn a multi-line phone system and an excellent phone manner; and should have an interest in learning more about security systems, risk management and emergency preparedness within a pediatric healthcare setting. The Portland Shriners Hospital is located in inner-southwest Portland, on Marquam Hill.

PCC Cascade Language Exchange Program: Get paired with other students to teach and learn foreign language skills

The Language Exchange Program is designed to help students improve their foreign language skills through mutually shared practice so when they are paired up together they teach and learn from each other. Last year we had over 150 people sign up for the program and 63% of them were paired grouped. Anyone can participate! No special requirements. No fees. The program is made by students for anybody who is or want to learn any foreign language!

PCC Cascade ASPCC and Phi Theta Kappa: Thanksgiving Basket Donations

The holidays are fast approaching and with that comes hungry student families in need of a warm meal.

Each year Cascade ASPCC and Phi Theta Kappa give Thanksgiving Baskets to over 50 student families.  The Thanksgiving Program is an annual tradition that students and staff at Cascade look forward to each year.  Our goal is to raise $1,750.00, which will allow us to provide a Thanksgiving meal to 50 student families in need for the Thanksgiving holiday and help make it a happy, stress-free time.

Like last year, we are requesting donations of cash. Donations of cash are much more cost effective than collecting individual food items and we can accommodate everyone’s dietary needs.  With the help of your department, we are sure to continue the tradition of generosity and community which defines PCC Cascade.

Our Phi Theta Kappa president, has provided letters and donation envelopes to each building on campus.  You may also donate at the Student Union Info Booth (1st Floor) anytime.  Receipts are available for tax purposes.  Donation locations are as follow:

  • Student Union First Floor – Debra Porta/Heidi Dombek
  • Student Services Building Room 209 – Anita Morris
  • Gym Room 100 – Dale Peterka
  • Cascade Hall Room 208 – Denyse Peterson
  • Moriarty Arts Building Room 105 – Reba Stephney
  • Terrell Hall Room 123 – Amanda Harrison
  • Jackson Hall Room 210C – Janet DiGrazia
  • Public Service Education Building Room 132 – Allison Wolde
