When you are looking for your next job, financial stress can make everything feel harder. This six-part Financial Empowerment Series is designed to help you take back control of your money so you can focus on your future with clarity and confidence. Through a partnership between WorkSource Portland Metro and Financial Beginnings Oregon, you will build practical skills around credit and debt, income and taxes, fraud protection, saving and retirement, money habits, and goal setting. Each session gives you tools you can use right away to stabilize your finances, reduce stress, and make informed decisions as you move forward in your career.

Take control of your finances during a layoff or career transition. This workshop will show you how to quickly assess your financial situation, prioritize expenses, and create a short-term plan to stretch your resources while planning your next steps. We will cover managing income changes,
severance, and benefits, and highlight resources that can support your financial stability. You’ll leave with practical tools and clear guidance to make confident financial decisions as you navigate what’s next.

Meet the Employer is an interactive workshop that brings job seekers face-to-face with hiring employers. Representatives from various companies present overviews of their organizations, including their mission, workplace culture, and current or upcoming job opportunities. Participants gain insight into employer expectations, hiring processes, and in-demand skills. The workshop also features dedicated networking time, giving attendees the chance to ask questions, exchange contact information, and build professional relationships that can lead to future employment opportunities

This workshop is designed for professionals who already have a resume and want to strengthen its effectiveness in today’s competitive job market. Participants will review resume fundamentals while learning advanced techniques for targeting and customizing resumes for specific roles, writing strong accomplishment-based bullet points, and optimizing resumes for Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) and AI-based screening tools. Those who attend the workshop will be invited to the Advanced Resume Review workshop for feedback on their resume.

A follow-up for individuals who attended the advanced resume workshop, focused on strengthening and finalizing resumes for job applications. Participants will receive an invitation to join after completion of the advanced resume workshop. Please have an electronic copy of your resume available to share in a small group setting for feedback and editing.
