Robert Gamblin – Connections in a Warming World: Icebergs of Greenland/Scenes of Venice

  • Dates: April 13 – October 7, 2022
  • Reception and artist talk: Southeast First Friday Art Walk, October 7, 2022, 6pm
  • Location: Southeast Gallery, Student Commons Building

In Connections in a Warming World: Icebergs of Greenland/Scenes of Venice, Robert Gamblin explores how not only two separate bodies of work create new meaning as they are connected within the same space, but how melting sea ice impacts distant communities.

“These oil paintings are from two series of work: Icebergs of Greenland and Scenes of Venice. They were not painted as political statements, but by bringing them together they become one.“

The Southeast Gallery is a public and high-traffic area for students and visitors to PCC’s Southeast Campus. It spans the West wall of the Student Commons and Gamblin’s images are hung between columns of windows, in a space where students seek information and find a place to sit, study, and visit. Split in half by a glass entryway, the space for interaction is held, rather than interrupted by the doors – suitable for Robert Gamblin’s work as the proximity serves to create the connection between images, mirroring life.

Coming off of a Summer where many records for extreme temperatures and weather events were experienced all around the world, Robert Gamblin’s artist talk about his work, Connections in a Warming World: Icebergs of Greenland / Scenes of Venice is one that should not be missed.
