The Value of Hobbies

Posted by | Start the discussion

Needle FeltingHobbies are any pursuit, other than your normal occupation, that is done for fun, relaxation, or other personal non-financial enrichment. One of the main benefits of hobbies is their ability to relax and recharge you. This, however, doesn’t imply that they involve sitting or lying around. Many hobbies are quite active, and the relaxation they provide is mental rather than physical. A key factor is that the relevant activities must be enjoyable to you in order to qualify as your hobby.

De-stressing with hobbies doesn’t just make you feel more relaxed. It can improve your performance on your regular job, give you something to talk about with friends and family, help you learn new skills, and improve your decision-making abilities, creativity, and confidence.

PCC offers this limited open forum as an extension of the respectful, well-reasoned discourse we expect in our classroom discussions. As such, we welcome all viewpoints, but monitor comments to be sure they stick to the topic and contribute to the conversation. We will remove them if they contain or link to abusive material, personal attacks, profanity, off-topic items, or spam. This is the same behavior we require in our hallways and classrooms. Our online spaces are no different.
