I. May Second Saturday Cleanup (May 14, 2016)

Join volunteers for this monthly Second Saturday Cleanup in Northwest Portland. Pick up litter from NW Vaughn to Raleigh, NW 22nd to 26th. Coffee/tea and pastries hosted by Food Front on their front terrace. Come dressed for the weather.

II. Mary S. Young State Park – Take Care of West Linn Day (May 14, 2016)

Come out to rid the beautiful park of non native vegetation and remove trash. Individuals, families and organizations are all welcome. All volunteers will be rewarded with a lunch at noon. Tools and gloves provided. Please dress for the weather. Activities include: Invasive Plant Removal, Litter Cleanup.

III. Burnside Wilderness Park – Take Care of West Linn Day (May 14, 2016)

Restore a beautiful nature park that has become overrun by English Ivy and other invasives. Tools and gloves will be provided, just bring sturdy shoes and a friend. We’d be delighted if you’d stay for our barbeque afterward. Activities include: Invasive Plant Removal and Litter Pickup.

IV. McLean House – Take Care of West Linn Day (May 14, 2016)

Volunteers, you are needed to assist with house maintenance and gardening of this beautiful historic home and riverside park. Activities include: Invasive Plant Removal, painting and general clean-up.

V. NWDA Third Saturday May Cleanup (May 21, 2016)

Join volunteers for this monthly Third Saturday Cleanup in Northwest Portland. Pick up litter and remove graffiti in the area. Join us for some coffee and conversation afterward. Volunteers should come prepared with completed waiver forms (if possible) and work gloves on cold days. Activities include: Litter Cleanup.

VI. Third Saturday No Ivy League Event in May (May 21, 2016)

Drop in for our regular Saturday ‘freelance’ work parties to become a steward of our beloved natural area: Forest Park! Volunteer Freelancers will take a short hike to one of our various sites and work off-trail removing English ivy. This is a DIRTY job so come prepared in grubby, long-sleeved clothing and boots. We’ll provide gloves, tools and snacks.Volunteers will meet at the Lower Macleay field house located at 2960 NW Upshur St. Activities include: Invasive Plant Removal.

VII. Join a Last Saturday Weed Warrior Service Project for May (May 28, 2016)

Join the Weed Warrior effort to restore a healthy habitat at Mt. Tabor Park. The Weed Warrior Stewardship Coordinator and volunteer crew leaders will share their knowledge of the natural habitat, demonstrate how to remove non-native vegetation, and help keep us organized, safe and motivated! We will make sure that you are comfortable and contribute in ways that match your skills and interests. Wear comfortable clothes that are appropriate for working in natural areas: long pants, long sleeves, brimmed hat to protect from sun/rain, and closed-toe sturdy shoes. Bring a water bottle. We provide you with tools, gloves, and snacks. Activities include: Invasive Plant Removal, Litter Cleanup.

VIII. Ma Olsen’s Garden Extension for May (May 28, 2016)

We’re incubating plans for an tongue-in-cheek sculpture/Dr. Seuss garden in this section. We should be able to polish off the remaining weeds this winter, but we need an infusion of help and laughter. Activities include: Invasive Plant Removal.

2. Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District: Volunteers Needed for Run a Mile Day! (May 24 & 25, 2016)

THPRD is looking for volunteers who enjoy fitness and working with kids to help out at our second annual National Run a Mile Day at Stoller Middle School! This event will celebrate the achievement of running a mile. We will have refreshments for the kids and have a marked course at Stoller Middle School. Volunteers will assist in the set-up of running course, hand out water & refreshments to students, & monitor the finish line.

Event Dates: Tuesday May 24th & Wednesday May 25th
Shift: 8:30 am – 12:30 pm; 12:30 pm – 3:30 pm

3. Rigler School Uniting Neighborhoods (SUN): Extended Day Assistant

Join us and help make a positive impact on the lives of our students! Our extended day program consists of assisting students with their homework and reading, as well as student supervision and classroom support. The program is ran Monday through Thursday from 2:30-5pm. Volunteer hours are flexible. We are located inside the Rigler School (5401 NE Prescott St. Portland, OR) in room 42.

5. JOIN: Day Space Volunteer Positions for Summer

The Day Space Volunteer position gives volunteers a meaningful experience and many opportunities to talk to folks experiencing homelessness and hear genuine stories of their experiences. Volunteers typically work either a morning shift, from 10 am – 12:30 pm, or afternoon shift, from 12:30 pm – 3 pm.

What does the Summer Volunteer Staff position entail? Staffing the front desk which includes:

  • Working as a team to meet the basic needs of people experiencing homelessness
  • Monitoring the shower list
  • Monitoring the barter list
  • Handing out hygiene products, pet food, laundry vouchers, computer codes, mail, etc.
  • Connecting folks with their outreach workers and communicating the nature of our outreach-based housing programs to the public
