Mercy Corps Northwest: AmeriCorps VISTA Team Seeks Advisory Committee Members

We’re currently looking for low-income community members interested in helping support our efforts to end poverty by joining our advisory committee.

Our advisory committee helps guide and support our mission by providing valuable feedback on our programming and connecting us and our members with community resources.

At this time we are recruiting only advisory committee members who come from low-income communities.

What does the Mercy Corps NW VISTA Advisory Team Do?

  • Offer feedback on programming plans/site selection
  • Offer opportunities for outreach and partnerships with the organizations they represent
  • Occasionally serve as representatives in the community for the program
  • Meet twice a year in Portland (Skype or phone attendance is fine)
  • Time commitment of 4-8 hours per year

Who are advisory team members?

  • Past AmeriCorps supervisors and volunteers
  • Social service/nonprofit leaders
  • Socially-engaged community members and students
  • Individuals from low-income communities

How do I benefit?

  • Network with other community leaders
  • Hold a leadership role
  • See how a large nonprofit works
  • Gain professional development experience

What qualifications do I have to have?

  • Be from a low-income community (including a college students)
  • Involvement in community service activities, or interest in being involved in community service
  • A residence in Oregon
  • A passion for helping others!
