Trauma Informed Approaches in Higher Education: Trainings, workshops and consultation services
All PCC employees are welcome to sign up for Trauma Informed Approaches in Higher Education.
A “trauma-informed approach” in higher education refers to the knowledge we hold about the impact of trauma on the lives, experiences, and learning capacities of our students and colleagues, and the subsequent approaches we use with this knowledge in mind. PCC’s Trauma Informed Approaches Training sequence consists of training modules adapted from Trauma Informed Oregon’s Foundations of Trauma series and personalized to be relevant and applicable to our PCC community.
Participants learn about the brain, nervous system, trauma, and trauma responses, and gain practical tools and skills to amplify safety, collaboration, trust, cultural awareness, and executive functioning (including attention, learning, memory, etc.).
Following the training, participants should have a clear understanding of what trauma is and how it impacts our students and colleagues, how to identify and navigate traumatic impact and avoid retraumatization, and how to utilize trauma knowledge to improve classroom and workplace experiences.
