Education partners
We benefit from, and provide support for, many partners in education throughout the area. Our longstanding relationships with local area High Schools helps bridge the gap from K-12 to college. We provide Dual Credit opportunities for students across the State of Oregon. We also partner with other Oregon institutions for Higher Learning. Here are a few specific examples of the relationships we have had during the last several years.
St. Helens High School
We continue to partner with Joe Mauck, an amazing High School instructor and homebuilder, in a variety of ways. Instructors visit with students during the school year. Joe serves on our Industry Advisory Board. We provided letters of support for a federal grant Joe secured to help Middle School students get involved in projects with the High School. We sponsor Dual Credit for St. Helens students. Several graduates of SHHS are current students in BCT classes.
Forest Grove High School
Forest Grove, along with St. Helens, has one of the strongest programs of study in building construction technology for high school students in the State of Oregon. Led by an amazing instructor, Chris Higginbottom, the students at FGHS build a home every year and put it on the market. We have had many Viking House graduates come to PCC, and many more go on to four-year colleges. We sponsor Dual Credit for FGHS students, and we have provided information sessions at FGHS for students.
Sherwood High School
Jon Dickover came to PCC and took our BCT 104 Construction Math class over ten years ago. Why? Because he wanted to teach the class to his students at Sherwood High School. Jon has built a solid program at Sherwood, and we are proud to offer Dual Credit classes for his students, including in Construction Math.
Oregon Institute of Technology (Oregon Tech)
Fortunately for our AAS graduates, there is a program that allows them to take their 2-year degree and move directly into a four-year college as a junior, accepting their first two years of study entirely, and requiring only two more years to earn a Bachelor’s degree. Oregon Tech in Wilsonville, also known as OIT, has accepted many of our Construction Management students over the years, as they work toward a Bachelor’s of Applied Science (BAS) in Technology and Management degree, or an Operations Management degree. Maureen Sevigny is the Program Director at Oregon Tech, and she also serves on our Industry Advisory Board.
Southern Oregon University (SOU)
For students who come up to Portland from the lower half of the state, we are fortunate that SOU offers a similar program to that of Oregon Tech, described above.
Transfer Credit from Your Prior Educational Experience
BCT also will evaluate and, as appropriate, transfer in and apply via a course substitution, credits that you earned at another College or University, in the Armed Services, or in a foreign country. This is all done on a case by case basis, working directly with each student.
