Winter break closure frequently asked questions (FAQ)

PCC is closed December 19 at 5pm through January 4 for winter break.

Campus offices reopen on January 5, when Winter Term begins.

Many students use the break to get ready for the new term. This FAQ highlights the services that change or may be delayed while the college is closed. If you need quick help during the break, use the chat button available on many PCC webpages. You can still take important steps to stay on track during the break, and we’ll be ready to support you when offices reopen.

Admissions and New Students

Can I still be admitted for Winter term?

Applications for Winter term were due December 17.

If additional documentation is requested to complete your application, please follow the instructions provided in your admissions application portal. Document uploads submitted after December 19 may not be processed until after Winter term classes have started.

Monitor your inbox closely for application updates and next steps.

Applications for all future terms submitted after December 17 will be processed in early January.

Advising

Will advisors be available during the closure?

No. Advisors return January 5.

During the break you can still:

Registration and Holds

How do I check if my classes are protected during the break?

Check your payment status in MyPCC. Go to Paying for College, look for the chair icon, which shows whether your classes are protected (not at risk of being dropped).

The icon can change, so check it regularly.

You can review the chair icon status descriptions if you need help understanding what each icon means.

I have a registration hold. Can it be cleared during the break?

Learn more about resolving holds on the viewing and resolving holds webpage. Holds that require staff action will not be able to be resolved until January 5.

I’m getting a prerequisite error. Can it be fixed during the break?
Can I still register for classes during the break?

Yes. You can register for any open class if you meet the requirements. Email your advisor with any questions. Advisors will start replying to messages on January 5. However, you do not need to wait to register.

Visit our how to register page for more information.

What if I get dropped and need to add my classes back?

Try to re-register back into your classes. If a class is full, look for another section or different class that fits your degree program. Instructors can issue Late Add overrides starting January 5. Email the instructor from your PCC email and include:

  • Your full name
  • Your G#
  • Class CRN

Financial Aid

Can I get FAFSA help during the break?

PCC staff are not available during the break, but you can call the Federal Student Aid at 1-800-433-3243 for FAFSA or FSA ID help.

My financial aid is complete, why am I still getting emails saying I could be dropped?

Go to the Paying for College tab in MyPCC and check your Financial Aid Dashboard for red flags. If your aid is complete, you have accepted your offer, and you’re registered in eligible classes, you should see:

  • A pending financial aid payment in the My Account channel
  • Your classes marked as protected in the “Don’t Get Deleted” section

If these aren’t showing, consider starting a PCC Payment Plan to keep your classes protected until aid is processed in January.

I’m waiting on an outside payment (e.g., 529 College Savings Plan, scholarship check, employer payment, etc.). Will it be processed during the closure?

PCC will still receive mailed or electronic payments during the break, but they won’t be posted until after staff return on January 5. If the payment hasn’t posted by December 20, consider starting a PCC Payment Plan or paying in full. After the outside payment is processed, depending on your entire account balance, any extra amount could be refunded. Visit the refunds webpage for more details.

My financial aid doesn’t look right. Is processing affected by the break?

Yes. Financial aid updates and reviews are paused during the closure and may take up to two weeks once processing resumes on January 5.

You can still check your Financial Aid Dashboard in MyPCC and upload any missing documents. You may want to consider starting a PCC Payment Plan to stay enrolled.

How do I submit an appeal or financial aid documents during the break?

Upload them through your MyPCC Financial Aid Dashboard. The appeal requirement will have a link that says “Upload Here”.

If you’re unable to upload, email documents to documents@pcc.edu. Staff will begin processing documents on January 5.

Reviews can take up to two weeks and due to the closure we cannot guarantee that your appeal will be reviewed before the final deletion for non-payment on January 10. Consider a PCC Payment Plan to stay enrolled.

My aid is on hold for identity verification. What can I expect?

Verification reviews will resume January 5 and may take up to two weeks. Due to the winter break closure, we cannot guarantee that yours will be reviewed before the final deletion for non-payment on January 10.

To keep your classes protected, consider setting up a PCC Payment Plan while you wait.

Can I submit a Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Appeal during the break?

Yes. Submit your SAP appeal through your MyPCC Financial Aid Dashboard. Reviews will begin January 5 and may take up to two weeks. Find the appeals form and SAP information on our financial aid standards webpage.

If you need help, email your advisor. They will begin replying to messages on January 5.

International Students (F-1 Visa)

I have an insurance hold on my account. Can it be removed during the break?

Not until offices reopen. You can still purchase Winter insurance through LewerMark and email your payment confirmation to oiss@pcc.edu.

Holds will start being removed starting January 5.

Visit the OISS health insurance webpage for more information.

I uploaded my documents but my portal still says “awaiting”. What should I do?

Give it up to 24 hours for the system to update. If it still says “awaiting”, email international@pcc.edu. Staff will begin reviewing messages January 5.

Can I drop a class during the break?

Not without OISS approval.

F-1 international students must remain full-time (minimum of 12 credits):

  • ESOL: 12 in-person credits
  • Academic programs: at least 9 of the 12 credits must be in-person

Email oiss@pcc.edu with your questions. Staff will begin replying to messages on January 5.

Is there still time to enroll for Winter term?

No. Winter term applications have closed. The next available term that F-1 international students may apply for is Spring 2026. Visit our admissions webpage for deadlines.
