Details about this class

All PCC Math courses require proctored exams for all modalities (in-person, remote, online, hybrid, etc.). Please check this Class Details Page for updated information prior to the beginning of the term and check D2L Brightspace once the term has begun.

Proctored Exams: Proctored exams are one of the many assessment tools used in MTH/STAT courses to assess student learning. For in-person sections, exams are proctored in-person on campus during class time. For remote sections, exams are primarily proctored virtually by the instructor in Zoom during remote class time. For online sections, exams are primarily proctored virtually by the instructor in Zoom on dates/times scheduled by the instructor.

The exams for this class will be proctored virtually by me (your instructor). To have your exam proctored virtually, you must fully read and understand the Student Guide to Virtually Proctored Exams in Zoom (Have your PCC gmail account open to access the link) and meet the technology/environment requirements; technology support will not be provided on exam day. Virtual proctoring was designed and piloted in collaboration between Math, Online Learning, and the Testing Center.

If you are unable to attend the virtual proctored exams due to accessibility concerns, please reach out to Accessible Ed & Disability Resources at PCC to discuss options pertaining to accommodated testing.

In the rare event of an unavoidable scheduling conflict or if you live outside the Portland region, please contact me as soon as possible and no later than Friday of Week 1 so that possible proctoring arrangements may be considered.

Contact me if you have any questions or concerns about proctored exams.

Prerequisites Review

If it has been more than several terms since you last passed a math course, please strongly consider enrollment in ALC 60 to update your prerequisite skills (MTH 20 Fundamentals of Mathematics) while taking MTH 60. More information about ALC  60 may be found at the math department's webpage about Alternative Learning Courses and Alternative Learning Math.

Technology

Online access to this course via Zoom and other online resources multiple times per week is required.

Weekly access to a printer to print weekly assignments is strongly recommended.

Scanning technology with the ability to scan written work to a single multi-paged PDF file is required. Alternatives to a dedicated physical scanner (available at all PCC libraries and computer centers) includes many optional third-party apps using your smart phone.  One such commonly used app is the free AdobeScan and is available at https://acrobat.adobe.com/us/en/mobile/scanner-app.html

No show policy

Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class.

Students with disabilities

Students with disabilities should notify their instructor if accommodations are needed to take this class. For information about technologies that help people with disabilities taking Online based classes please visit the Disability Services website.
