PORTLAND, Ore. – Turn nature’s elements into practical and beautiful pieces of artwork in Portland Community College’s non-credit woodworking class. Beginning this March, students will have the opportunity to bring their own unique style to a workshop, creating timeless wood artwork that can become a family heirloom. Woodworking is designed for both the novice and master craftsman. Instructor Gary Martin will train students to use the appropriate equipment needed for each individual project. "The class taught me the basics of working with wood, and I was able to create my own bookcase. It’s a real feeling of accomplishment," said recent student Jane Comerford. The class will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays, March 30 through May 25, in the Workshop at Wilson High School, 1151 S.W. Vermont St. Cost is $139.
