Portland Community College’s men’s soccer team was pitch perfect this season.

The Panthers are back on top of the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) South Region. PCC secured the region championship Oct. 23 with a 1-0 victory over Rogue Community College at the Rock Creek Campus. The title is PCC’s first since 2017 and just the second region championship in program history.

Henry Hubbard

Henry Hubbard scored the season-clinching game-winner.

Henry Hubbard delivered the deciding moment in the 20th minute. Taking a pass from teammate Yahir Galindo near the top of the penalty area, Hubbard fired a shot into the upper corner of the net. The Panthers’ defense protected the advantage for the remainder of the match, limiting Rogue to just five shots and earning its sixth shutout of the season.

The victory improved PCC’s overall record to 8-1-2 and its conference record to 6-1-2, giving the Panthers a six-point lead in the South Region standings with one regular-season game remaining.

The achievement comes in head coach Hunter Hodgkins’ first season leading the program and represents a major milestone for Panther athletics. With the region title secured, PCC now turns its attention to the NWAC postseason tournament and the opportunity to build on its championship season.
