PCC Brings Jim Little to Rock Creek for Meteorology

ROCK CREEK – This summer, local meteorologist Jim Little, of TV weather casting fame in the Portland metro area, brings his own style of instruction to students at PCC’s Rock Creek Campus. Little says he looks forward to teaching college. "I’ve been a guest lecturer in college classes before. This is my first experience, but it will be fun. I have a lot of background in meteorology. What I can do is make it relevant to people in the Pacific Northwest."Little plans to guide the class through developing their own weather forecast and then "see how we do in comparison to the weather service and TV forecasters. The facilities at PCC are great. We’ll be able to access live weather data, real-time data through the Internet connections in the classroom."Topics in the Physical Science 109 class will cover the characteristics of the atmosphere, air pressure and winds, atmospheric moisture, large air masses, violent storms and the effect of oceans on weather and climates. The course is worth four credits and is offered in a lecture-lab format on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 9 to 10:50 a.m. and 11 a.m. to 12:50 p.m., beginning the week of June 26 and ending Aug. 16. The four credits are transferable to four-year colleges and universities and help fulfill lower-division science prerequisites. Little, who is currently a consulting meteorologist, spent five years in the Air Force as a meteorologist and 24 years as a television meteorologist.
