Hiring a work study student
Once you have determined a student you want to hire as a work study employee, you need to report the hire in the online job board, Panther Works. The work study position must be approved by the Work Study Team before you can report a hire. See how to post jobs for students.
The Work Study Team must approve the hire and create an employee file with PSEC. The supervisor and the department manager are responsible to complete all onboarding requirements in Workday.
The Work Study Team will confirm that the hiring process is complete by sending a Hire Authorization email to the supervisor and the student. The emailed authorization is the confirmation that the new work study employee can begin working.

Once a work study employee is hired, they are expected to stay with this job for the entire academic year. Albeit rare, changing jobs mid-year happens. Check with the Work Study Team about those changes by emailing workstudy@pcc.edu. Work study employees are allowed to be employed by one department at a time – working in more than one department at a time is prohibited.
The award varies from $600-$2,200 per term based on eligibility and will be listed on the student’s award letter. The award is valid for the term it is awarded. The award is the maximum amount the student can earn in that term and the funds do not roll over. The hourly wage for work study employees in 26-27 academic year is $16.80.
Eligibility
Departments / organizations should only hire a student who has been awarded work study by the Financial Aid Office. If a student is hired without work study funds awarded, the department is responsible for 100% of any earned wages.
Supervisors can check if a student has a work study award on the student’s award letter. If the work study offer is not displayed on a student’s award letter, email workstudy@pcc.edu with the student’s name and G# and we will check for eligibility.
