Details about this class

Welcome to Precalc 1.

I am looking forward to working with you as we learn some fun and interesting concepts in math.  Below are some important details about our class that you should know before the term begins.

Free textbook and homework system: This class will use a free online textbook and a free online homework system. Textbook and homework access will be given in D2L when the course opens.

Course Design: Students work through the content in modules. Each module has video lectures, an exploratory discussion paired with a lab report, online homework and a quiz. The Midterm Exam covers the first four modules, and the final exam covers the entire course.

Virtually Proctored Exams: Our class will be participating in a Virtual Proctoring Pilot that is being run in collaboration with Math, Online Learning, and the Testing Center.  Please review the Student Guide to Virtually Proctored Exams in Zoom for important information and requirements.

The exams in this class will be proctored virtually in Zoom with me, your instructor, on the following *tentative* dates and times:

  • Midterm Exam on Tuesday, February 10th, 2026 from 5pm - 7:30 pm on Zoom
  • Final Exam on Thursday, March 19th, 2026 from  5pm - 7:30 pm on Zoom

Dates above are tentative and may change.

Schedule Conflicts/Alternatives: If you do not meet the requirements for virtually proctored exams, prefer to take your exams in-person, and/or have an unavoidable scheduling conflict, alternative testing arrangements can be made for virtual or in-person proctoring at a testing center given adequate notice and depending on testing center capacity and availability. Scheduling appointments with a testing center and communicating with the instructor is the responsibility of the student.

If you have accommodations through Accessible Ed & Disability Resources at PCC, let's connect so we can discuss your specific accommodations and how I can best support you.

Students will have the opportunity to indicate how they will take their exams during the first week of class.

If you have any questions or concerns about proctored exams or the course in general, please send me an email.

Technology

Scanning: There will be times when you'll need to upload your hand-written work to D2L in image and PDF format. This can be done by using a smart phone, traditional scanner, or digital camera.

No show policy

Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class. It is important to log in as soon as the class starts to see what the participation requirements are.

Online technical requirements

Please be sure to read the quick guide to Online Learning technical requirements.

Students with disabilities

Students with disabilities should notify their instructor if accommodations are needed to take this class. For information about technologies that help people with disabilities taking Online based classes please visit the Disability Services website.
