Details about this class

Hello and thank you for your interest in ART 208: History of Asian art (China).

ART 208 examines the art and visual culture of China from the Neolithic period up through the 20th century. The course covers a variety of art mediums, including painting, sculpture, architecture, ceramics, and calligraphy. You will acquire visual skills by recognizing artistic styles; analytical skills by connecting art with its ritual, religious, and political context; and writing skills by expressing ideas you learn about the art from the course materials.

Prior experience with art history, visual analysis, or Asian studies is encouraged but not required.

ART 208 is an asynchronous online class, meaning it isn't live. Instead, you are given the course material online and you usually have one week to complete it.

There are two required virtual meetings with your instructor. During Week 1 and Week 5, students will schedule a meeting via Google Meets to check in about the class, its policies, and to ensure you are doing well in the class.

There is no required textbook for the class. Instead all readings and videos will be provided. Graded activities focus on discussion posts and quizzes. There is also a 3-4 page final writing assignment.

To learn more about the course and its topics, take a look at this syllabus from a previous class. If you want to learn more about me, you can visit my website. If you have any questions, please send me an email (julianne.sandlin@pcc.edu). I look forward to seeing you this coming term!
