Introduces the aesthetics of music and their relationship to companion art forms. Covers main Western style periods including Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Twentieth Century, and contemporary genres. Surveys musical form, instrumentation, composer biographies, and music in national cultures. Includes works by women composers and non-Western artists. Contains a substantial amount of critical listening. Prerequisite: (WR 115 and RD 115) or IRW 115 and MTH 20 or equivalent placement. Audit available. (See course content and outcomes.)
