Details about this class

Good news you do not have to purchase a textbook for the class! The textbook we will be using is Interplay: The Process of Interpersonal Communication, 14th edition, which is available for free and chapter links are posted in the weekly lessons.

For more information about the class, you will be given various opportunities to understand the dynamics of workplace communication, examining and analyzing how interpersonal communication principles impact everyday work-life. In addition, you will have a chance to practice and evaluate your interpersonal communication skill level in the context of your personal and work experiences, identifying ways to improve those skills to successfully serve customers and interact with all people within an organization, business, or company!

You will become more adept at conveying clear messages, disclosing information, saying the positive "no," and effectively resolving conflicts. Other topics include misconceptions, cultural values and norms, influences of perception and judgment, nonverbal communication, listening effectively, identifying and controlling emotions, and developing an effective communications climate to build positive and cohesive workplace or personal interpersonal relationships.

Class activities include weekly discussions and self-assessment assignments (which students enjoy). By the end of the term, you will be required to complete a final presentation focusing on resolving a workplace conflict scenario. Your presentation can be a PowerPoint, video, or paper. You have the choice of which presentation approach works best for you!
