Details about this class

This is a survey of early British literature and some of the first texts that were ever written in English. The course is discussion-based and you will be encouraged to analyze the works of early Britain in both familiar and creative ways. We do not have exams, but you do have mid and end of quarter projects instead that are reflective in nature, and allow you to connect dynamically to the course texts and themes.

Though my course load does not allow me to accept late work, I do great on a 1000 point scale which means that you can miss 100 points and still get an A, 200 and get a B, 300 and get a C. In addition, everyone gets one freely and offer unlimited extra credit. In this manner, your grade is completely in your control.

Everyone is welcome! Don't let the idea of old English scare you off. If you have any interest in dragons, fairies, wizards, horses, or castles, you're in the right place.

Technology

This is an entirely on line course which means that you will need ready access to the Internet and a computer upon which you can work, and the computer needs to have both visual and auditory capability as an addition to reading text, you will watch videos and movies. There is no in person component so we will not be working in zoom, but you do need to be able to check in regularly on the course page and at your PCC email.

No show policy

Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class. It is important to log in as soon as the class starts to see what the participation requirements are.
