Details about this class
Our class is unique from many public speaking courses because it is fully online and with scheduled live speech delivery. We will not have required regular class meetings. You will deliver your three speeches live using the Zoom conferencing tool with fellow students as the audience.
There will be two required peer group meetings, you will be placed in peer groups based on availability for live/synchronous meetings (an availability survey will be completed during week 1 coursework).
You will schedule a day/time with your peer group during these weeks:
- Week 5
- Week 7
Technology
You will be recording video assignments weekly, and presenting three formal speeches (some with the requirement for digital visual aids). This means you will be required to use your webcam and microphone to capture both your verbal and nonverbal delivery on all speaking assignments.
To complete these essential course assignments, you must have the following by the first day of the term:
- Webcam (available for purchase from the PCC bookstore so you can use Financial Aid funds)
- Microphone or headset with microphone (also available for purchase from the PCC bookstore)
- Access to a computer- some video features will NOT work on a mobile device (i.e. smartphone or tablet)
