Details about this class

Please read about my class before registering to ensure it is the right class for you. This class is designed to equip you with essential academic and personal skills. We will journey to unlock our full potential as students and individuals throughout this hybrid class, combining remote Zoom sessions with online coursework.

In this class, we will learn and practice success skills such as time and stress management, motivation, handling procrastination, and explore how to access PCC's resources for student success. Each week, we will dedicate time to practice a specific type of breathing technique designed to enhance our focus and manage stress, ensuring we are in the best mental state to learn and succeed.

A core aspect of this class is creating a supportive community of learners. We will foster an environment that encourages mutual support, collaboration, and shared success, practicing how to excel in college and beyond.

Learn more about classes at PCC here. This is a Hybrid class, Remote and Online. It is only eight weeks, so you must attend class via Zoom every Tuesday from 9-10:50 am. The class is not recorded and requires participation with a working camera and microphone. You must be able to interact with classmates, complete assignments, speak, and listen during class.

16 hours will be completed in the Zoom classroom every Tuesday; the other 14 hours you will complete in weekly assignments. These activities include reading short articles, watching videos, and completing assignments. There are no exams or tests.

Attendance in the ZOOM class is required; you must attend 4 classes to pass and 6 for an A.

Each class will explore PCC’s resources, practice college success skills like time management, building motivation, and taming procrastination, and work on increasing our well-being and mental health.

I do not lecture, so classes aren’t recorded; I use cooperative learning, which requires students to be present, engaged, and participate with cameras and microphones.

Because not everyone is in a situation to have a camera on or a working microphone, PCC offers many other sections. If you prefer to refrain from engaging or may have time to attend class, please select an ONLINE-only class. Remember, before you register, you must attend class with a camera and microphone on most of the time and be able to participate.

PCC students can check out laptops with microphones and cameras. More information here:  https://www.pcc.edu/library/equipment-for-checkout/

Research shows we can reduce isolation, depression, and anxiety by improving our daily interactions with others, especially at work or school. The camera lets us know one another, manage nonverbal communication, and build community.
