Apply to Bioscience Technology

To join this program, you must apply for admission. This moderately competitive program admits 22 students every fall. You don’t need a science background to apply. Ideal candidates will be able to write clearly and provide strong personal references. Applications are accepted year-round and are reviewed beginning in May – submit your application by May 15 for the best chance of acceptance.

How to apply

  1. Apply to PCC

    Complete this step as soon as possible so you can start using PCC resources. On the application, choose Associate of General Studies for your major. (Your major will be updated after you’re admitted to the program.)

  2. Take prerequisites

    Prerequisites depend on whether you are applying for the degree or the certificate:


    Certificate prerequisites:

    • MTH 95: Intermediate Algebra
    • WR 115: Intro to College Composition


    Degree prerequisites:

    • MTH 95: Intermediate Algebra
    • WR 121: College Composition
    • Chemistry:
      • CH 151: Preparatory Chemistry
      • or CH 221: General Chemistry I
    • Biology:
      • BI 112: Cell Biology for Health Occupations
      • or BI 211: Principles of Biology
  3. Contact personal references

    On the application, we ask for contact info for two references. Ask someone who has known you in an academic or work setting: teachers, coaches, supervisors, co-workers. Let them know that we will be contacting them.

  4. Request letter of recommendation

    Ask one of your references to send us a letter of recommendation. The letter should address your academic, professional, or personal attributes, and your potential for success in this program. Send letters to josh.cary@pcc.edu.

  5. Write a personal statement

    With your application, you’ll submit a personal statement that describes your interest in the program. The statement should be about one page long and discuss your goals, skills, and experience. Tell us why you believe you will be successful in this program.

  6. Submit application

    Complete the application to Bioscience Technology.

After you apply

After you apply, watch for an email from the faculty department chair confirming that your application is complete. In late May, we will notify applicants of their status. All communication about admission will be sent to your PCC email address.

How are applicants selected?

Applicants are evaluated based on:

  • Successful completion of prerequisite coursework
  • Interest and readiness for a career in the bioscience industry as indicated in the personal statement and letter of recommendation
