Continuing education isn’t just a requirement as a licensed tattoo artist — it’s an opportunity to elevate your professional practice, stay current with industry standards, and deepen your expertise. In Oregon, tattoo professionals must complete a minimum of 10 hours of continuing education (CE) each licensure year to maintain active status and remain compliant with state regulations.

Tattoo Design & Technical Foundations
This course explores the foundations of art creation and intentional practice as they apply to tattoo design. Students learn how core tattooing techniques work and build skill-development sheets to strengthen technical execution. Emphasis is placed on applying fundamental art principles to create clear, intentional, and effective designs. The course also introduces methods for analyzing and refining design concepts to improve tattoo outcomes. By blending proven artistic approaches with scientific understanding, students develop stronger decision-making skills.

Rian Othus
Rian Othus is an accomplished global expert in tattoo science and philosophy with over two decades of experience in the industry. He currently serves as Vice Chairperson of the Oregon EBAP Board, where he helps shape standards and best practices in body art. Rian began his professional journey in the early 2000s, seeking advanced training to elevate his tattooing skills. When he discovered that much of the industry’s education focused narrowly on basic safety rather than growth and innovation, he took it upon himself to pursue deeper knowledge. This drive led him to critically analyze the tattoo industry, identify gaps in education and practice, and work toward meaningful improvements. Today, Rian is widely respected for his expertise, thoughtful approach, and ongoing commitment to innovation, education, and progress within the tattoo community.
