Teaching pairs
Partner up with a colleague to improve your online (no scheduled meetings) course or combined online (scheduled meetings) and online (no scheduled meetings) course through a peer observation process, reflection, and collegial sharing. Online Learning will set up a framework for this professional development activity focused on faculty sharing in the form of Teaching Pairs. Come away with a new faculty colleague and new strategies to consider implementing in your course. Workshop cohorts are limited to 10 participants.
Each pair will be matched by course modality and will focus on applying the What Works Well in Online Teaching Checklist.
Course requirements
Courses must be fully online (no scheduled meetings) or a combined modality of online (scheduled meetings) and online (no scheduled meetings) with a significant asynchronous online component using D2L Brightspace. (Courses should be organized into modules in D2L, with each module containing HTML content pages, interactive online activities, and assessments.)
Learning Outcomes
- Identify new strategies to consider implementing in your online course through a peer faculty sharing experience to further support active learning, engaging students in meaningful interaction, ensuring accessibility and equity, and empowering students to achieve the learning outcomes.
- Identify and apply strategies found in What Works Well in Online Teaching to your course.
- Review skills and strategies in the utilization of Brightspace and PCC supported tools and applications.
- Evaluate the role of the Online Student Start Guide, AI, accessibility features, and the Online Course Design Framework in shaping effective and inclusive online teaching practices.
You do not need to sign up with a partner. Cross-discipline collaboration is encouraged, and we can pair you up with another instructor. Participation involves 3 required Zoom sessions over a period of 4 weeks with a time commitment of up to 12 hours. Completion will include a stipend $300 for PT & FT faculty and count toward the refresher training.
Assessment
Completion of this workshop requires an asynchronous discussion and submitting the teaching pairs worksheet, complete with information about the observation of a partner’s course, a self-reflection about strategies learned from the partner’s observation, and a plan for future course improvements based on strategies learned during the partner and group experience.
