Portland Community College is hosting an exciting week-long celebration of global diversity and cultural exchange during International Education Week (IEW), taking place from November 13-17. This annual event, a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education, aims to promote international education and exchange opportunities while fostering cross-cultural understanding.
Throughout the week, PCC will offer a range of engaging activities, ensuring that students, faculty, and the community have the opportunity to participate in this global celebration. Highlights include a flag garland craft workshop, an international photo booth with giveaways, a delightful assortment of snacks from around the world, and an informative study abroad information session.
“International Education Week serves as a global celebration of cultural exchange and the richness and diversity that international education brings to our institutions and communities,” said Tiff Hayes, International Student Life coordinator. “Encouraging international students to share their stories and experiences during this week is crucial, as their narratives show us the transformative impact of global learning and understanding across borders. Through their voices, we can dismantle stereotypes, bridge cultural divides, and cultivate a more interconnected and empathetic global community.”
IEW is a nationwide event in the United States, encouraging colleges, universities, and organizations to come together and celebrate the benefits of international education and cultural exchange. It also aims to prepare Americans for a globalized world and attract future leaders from abroad to study and exchange experiences.
For those interested in exploring IEW events across the country, the U.S. Department of State’s IEW website is a valuable resource. Additionally, PCC’s Library has curated a special IEW page, offering information on related readings and research topics.
