PORTLAND, Ore. – The Multicultural Center and Office of Admissions at Portland Community College will host an open house for incoming students.

The event will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16 in the Performing Arts Center at the Sylvania Campus (12000 S.W. 49th Ave.). The event is free and open to all students. Parking is free of charge. Students can take campus tours; attend bilingual workshops for themselves and family; enjoy a campus resource fair; set up their free email account; meet PCC staff; and enjoy music by D.J. O.G. One and the Hungry Mob. There will also be raffle prizes and a barbecue lunch for $3.

“We want to create a welcoming environment for new students,” said Claire Oliveros, Multicultural Center coordinator. “We want to inspire and support the goals of our new students. This supports the college’s vision for supporting the first-year experience of students.”

The Sylvania Multicultural Center provides services that support academic achievement, leadership development, and the retention of students of color. The center’s mission is to support multi-racial students in receiving academic, social and cultural support.
