Photos and Story by

PORTLAND, Ore. – It’s been called enlightening, maturing and a life-changing experience. What is it? It’s the Florence Study Abroad Program and it’s open to students who want to explore art, history and literature amid Florence’s museums, churches and street life from Sept. 25 through Dec. 8. There will be an informational session for those interested from 6-7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 29 in Room 204 of the Library at the Sylvania Campus, 12000 49th Ave. The cost is approximately $6,725. This includes an apartment, personal and instructional support services, planned excursions and recreational activities, facility use, living accommodations and comprehensive insurance coverage. Financial aid is available to eligible students who apply early. Florence is situated on the banks of the Arno River. It offers plenty of opportunities to learn points of interests, from the architecture of Giotto and the painting of Botticelli and Leonardo da Vinci to the Ponte Vecchio, the 14th-century bridge across the Arno lined with shops, jewelers, goldsmiths and silversmiths. This program is offered in conjunction with other community colleges (Central Oregon, Chemeketa, Clackamas, Mt. Hood and Rogue) in partnership with the American Institute of Foreign Study. Anyone who is at least 18 years old, maintains a C average, and has completed at least 12 college credits is eligible. If you cannot attend the meetings, or have questions you would like answered, contact PCC’s International Education program at 503-614-7151, or email at studyabroad@pcc.edu.
