Center celebrates two years in Hillsboro

HILLSBORO, Ore. — The Hillsboro Education Center at Portland Community College marks its second year with a week-long open house in March. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Thursday March 1-4, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, March 5.Light refreshments, advising for spring term, information about the center, getting started at PCC, and a food drive by nursing students for the Oregon Food Bank, are among the featured offerings. PCC Hillsboro Education Center (HEC) opened two years ago in partnership with Washington County — who owns the building — to provide greater access to education for western Washington County residents.The center consists of 9,000 square feet, four classrooms, four offices, one conference room with testing area, and computer lab with 30 computers. The doors opened in January of 2002, providing Hillsboro residents with academic advising, more than 30 different credit classes each term, and serving more than 550 students. There are day, evening and Saturday morning classes in art, biology, building construction technology, computer applications, economics, ESL, and geology and more.
