Travel Back in Time at PCC Renaissance Fair at Sylvania

Come one, come all to the three-day Renaissance Fair at Portland Community College’s Sylvania Campus, 12000 S.W. 49th Ave., April 13-15 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Food and beverages are also free to visitors of the fair.

Fair revelers will be treated to era-specific live entertainment, lavishly decorated booths, fire dancing, mock battles by the Society for Creative Anachronism and more. A petting zoo for youngsters and a tattoo artist for body art-minded adults will also be starred attractions at the fair.

Some of this year’s festivities include:

Tuesday, April 13 Throughout the day, the Society for Creative Anachronism will be putting on mock fights, providing other information and other spontaneous acts. Also, from noon to 1 p.m., Akala, a ritualistic fire dancing troupe, will be performing outside Sylvania’s Performing Arts Center.

Wednesday, April 14 A petting zoo outside the Performing Arts Center will feature goats, sheep, a donkey, a mini-cow, a mini-horse, bunnies, chickens, ducks and a llama. Also, from noon to 1 p.m., an instrumental band will be playing in the Sylvania Upper Mall in the College Center building.

Thursday, April 15 Between the noon and 1 p.m., Dhomba, a neo-tribal dance and music group will be performing in the Upper Mall of the College Center building. Also, Empire of Chivalry and Steel will be doing a presentation during the day.
