Art Series – 9am-1pm
  • Location: Building 3 Mall
  • Expressive Ink Drawing
    • Chris Knight – Painting and Drawing
    • From Ancient Chinese Masters to Modern Western painters, such as Jing Hao and Van Gogh, artists have long appreciated the poetically expressive, boldly graphic, and rich philosophical applications of ink drawing. Chris will demonstrate large-scale ink drawings of animals and portraits and assist students in making their own drawings.
  • Monoprint Madness
    • Michael McGovern – Printmaking
    • Create relief monoprints using laser-etched photographic woodblocks along with found textured materials. Students are encouraged to get hands-on and inky and make some unique prints to take away.
  • Deconstructing/Reconstructing: Making Art from Everyday Moments
    • Mateo Zachai – Photography
    • Cut, hole-punch, and experiment with deconstructing and reconstructing throwaway images into unique gift cards.

Art Collection Scavenger Hunt – 2-3pm

  • Teams of four people are invited to scour the Rock Creek campus in search of pieces in our collection. Prizes will be awarded to the winning team! Organize your own team or show up at the gallery to form a team.
Rock Creek Chamber Choir – 2:30-3pm

10 ROCK! Original 10-minute Plays – 3-4pm

  • Written, performed, and read aloud by Rock Creek students

  • Write a 1-2 sentence memory of an image, a smell, a taste, or a sound about somewhere you’ve been in the world. Pin your story to the world map.

Wednesday, November 8

Art Series – 9am-1pm

  • Working from the Figure
    • Phyllis Trowbridge (Life Drawing), Mark Andres (Life Painting), and Colin Kippen (Life Sculpture)
    • Demonstration of drawing, painting, and sculpting from the same art model. Come and join us, everyone is invited to participate!
  • Coil-building a Candelabra!
    • Micki Skudlarczyk – Ceramics
    • Come watch a large-scale candelabra take form. There will also be an opportunity for students to get their hands dirty designing a personal tile that will become part of a collaborative tile mural that will be installed in the Rock Creek ceramic studio!
  • The World of Letters
    • Cora Pearl – Calligraphy and Hand Lettering
    • You will see a portfolio of professional work, a live demo of some of the different styles of calligraphy and hand lettering taught at PCC, learn about the different types of lettering art, and try some hands-on lettering yourself.
  • Carving Stone and Wood
    • Mylan Rakich – Sculpture
    • Hand carving demonstration with basswood, alabaster, and soapstone. See a selection of carving tools and techniques with hands-on participation.

  • A Raku (ancient Japanese) firing demonstration
    • Richey Bellinger – Ceramics
    • Watch how ceramic pieces are pulled red hot from the kiln, and how the post-firing reduction process works.
  • Foundry Demonstration
    • Ben Buswell – Sculpture
    • Come and watch how molten metal is cast in lost wax and green sand molds to create sculpture! Try on gear and help de-mold sculptures after the casting is finished too.
