Tuesday, November 8

Poetry Out Loud: Art Rock Poetry Slam – 10:30am-12pm
  • Location: Mall stage
  • A group of PCC students performs original slam poems in front of an audience and a panel of judges. Organized by Marianne Monson.
Lunchtime Concert – 12-1pm
  • Location: Mall stage
  • Portland State University’s The Green Note, one of Oregon’s premiere singing ensembles.
Art Fair – 12:30-4:30pm
  • Location: Mall
  • Chris Knight and Mark Andres – Expressive Ink Drawing
    • From Ancient Chinese Masters to Modern Western painters, such as Rembrandt and Van Gogh, artists have long appreciated the poetically expressive, boldly graphic, and rich philosophical applications of ink drawing. Chris and Mark will take turns demonstrating large-scale ink drawings of animals and portraits and assisting students in making their own drawings.
  • Shelley Chamberlin – Printmaking
    • Explore color, layering, and texture with monoprint: the most spontaneous and direct form of printmaking. Create richly layered prints using rollers, brushes, found texture, and ink. No experience necessary.
  • Donna Cole – Ceramics
    • Grab some clay and see what happens when you pinch, grab, and squeeze it into an object. Watch PCC Ceramics students and faculty throw pots on the potter’s wheel – you may get the opportunity to try it yourself!
Rock Creek Talent Showcase – 4-6pm
  • Location: Theater
  • Win a $25 gift card! The audience will vote at the end of the show for the winner. 8 slots are available, reserve yours early by emailing us at: anthony.catalan@pcc.edu. No audition is required. Soundcheck at 3pm.

Wednesday, November 9

Art Fair – 9am-1pm
  • Location: Mall
  • Mike McGovern – Printmaking
    • Monotype madness with Mike McGovern. Hands-on experience with making black and white painterly prints through additive and subtractive monotype processes.
  • Mylan Rakich – Carving
    • Hand carving demonstration with basswood, alabaster, and soapstone. See a selection of carving tools and techniques with hands-on participation.
  • Kelli Pennington – Photography
    • Learn the basics of photography by making Cyanotype prints. Kelli will guide students in making photographic blueprints with sunlight and water. Located in the Printmaking room, room 103.

  • Location: Room 105
  • Lecturettes on Artists We Can’t Stop Thinking About
  • Moderated by Nora Lehmann. Panelists: Prudence Roberts (Curator and Art Historian), Brandi Katherine Herrera (Poet and Writer)

The Portrait Head In Drawing, Sculpture, and Painting – 1-3pm
  • Location: Mall
  • Watch three art faculty work from a model and address the perceptual and conceptual issues of the portrait in two and three dimensions. Artists will develop certain works over two days.

Thursday, November 10

Art Fair – 9am-1pm
  • Location: Mall
  • Cora Pearl – Calligraphy and Hand Lettering
    • In this workshop, you will see a portfolio of professional work, see a live demo of some of the different styles of calligraphy and hand lettering taught at PCC, learn about the different types of lettering art, and try some hands-on lettering yourself. Come take a visit into the world of letters!
  • Micki Skudlarczyk – Ceramics
    • Micki will be demonstrating her sculptural forms through hand-building. Students will have the opportunity to share their thoughts, ideas, and experiences through hand-building a collage of visual imagery to be included in a collaborative mural.
  • Mike Southern – Watercolor
    • Come and explore the dynamic media of watercolor! Stop by and try your hand at this portable, non-toxic and versatile medium. Hands-on opportunities and demonstrations all through the day.

  • The Rock Creek Choirs, under the direction of Pollyanna Hancock Moody, will sing a variety of music from Broadway to classical to holiday favorites.
Extraordinary and Unlikely: True Stories from The Wild – 2-3pm
  • Location: Room 227
  • PCC faculty Marianne Monson and Jason Rizos are joined by Publisher and Author Cameron Pierce and Author Kevin Maloney who will read from recent nonfiction publications, followed by a panel discussion of craft, technique, research, and veracity in the personal creative essay.

  • Our campus has a new and expanded gallery space! Come celebrate the opening and rededication in honor of Dick Helzer (1940-2006), a long-time sculpture instructor in the Rock Creek Art Department
A Special Artist Tour of the Campus Permanent Collection – 1:30-3pm
  • Location: Begins at the Helzer Gallery
  • Take a tour of the Rock Creek campus permanent art collection in the company of several of the artists represented in the collection.
