Program Cancellation Policy

Study abroad programs can be canceled due to several factors, including (but not limited to) the following:

  • Low student enrollment 
  • Public health or safety warnings
  • Travel restrictions due to natural disasters or political safety, as determined by the U.S. Department of State 

The PCC Education Abroad Office works closely with our program provider organizations in countries where our programs travel to maintain the health and safety of our students and faculty while abroad. The PCC Education Abroad Office, in consultation with PCC Risk Management, may decide to cancel a program if the risk of sending students and faculty to a particular destination during the program dates is too great.  

Withdrawal Policy

If a student needs to withdraw from a PCC study abroad program, they must contact the PCC Education Abroad Office directly. A student is not considered withdrawn until their written notice is received. 

How to Withdraw from a PCC Study Abroad Program: 

  • Send an email or schedule a meeting with a PCC Ed Abroad Advisor to submit your notice of withdrawal formally
  • Include your name and the program that you have been admitted to
  • Include an explanation of why you are withdrawing from your program

Important: Withdrawing from a program does not absolve a student of their responsibility of covering program costs. Financial and academic consequences will be based on the official withdrawal date for your program.

Financial Responsibilities When A Student Withdraws

Course Withdrawal

If a student withdraws from a PCC study abroad course, the same payment deadlines and timelines that apply to regular PCC courses will apply. Check the PCC drop deadline website for specific timelines and potential financial consequences.

Program Fee Responsibilities

If a student withdraws less than 45 days before the program start date, the student will still owe part of the program fee. This covers expenses that program providers have already paid on the student’s behalf.

PCC Education Abroad Refund Policy

If a student withdraws from a PCC study abroad program, the $500 program deposit is non-refundable unless the program is canceled. 

The program could be canceled due to low enrollment or unforeseen circumstances in a specific location. In these circumstances, a student will receive a refund of their $500 as long as they do not owe money to the college.

Once the deposit deadline (February 22) has passed, financial expenses and future commitments will be made on the student’s behalf. The $500 deposit the student submitted will not be refunded if they drop or withdraw from the course.

PCC is not responsible for any losses incurred by students who become ineligible to attend the program or who are dismissed once the program has begun.

Late May Summer term course registration 

When a student registers for a study abroad program course(s), two charges are added to their account: the PCC Tuition and the PCC Ed Abroad Program Fees.

*If you need to drop or withdraw from the course, review the PCC drop deadlines for more information about the timeline and potential financial consequences.

Consider the Grade Options for your course: Letter Grade, Pass/No Pass, and Audit.

Early June Summer term payment deadline

PCC Tuition and remaining PCC Ed Abroad Program fees due.

If a student enrolls in the PCC Payment Plan for summer term, the Program Fee must be paid in full prior to the program start date. The study abroad Program Fee is non-refundable, as determined by each program’s refund policy.

Eligibility requirements

Application requirements for PCC programs:
  • 18 years of age or older by program start date.
  • Good academic and disciplinary standing.
  • Prerequisites for the course(s) included in the program to which you are applying.
  • Attend or view an Education Abroad First Steps Information Session.
  • The independence, self-reliance, and maturity necessary to obtain the benefits of studying abroad.
  • Willingness and ability to embrace the challenges of studying abroad.
