PCC Newberg Center Learning Garden: Learning Garden Cob Shed Project (Sept. 30th, Oct. 7th, and Oct.13th)

Volunteer Opportunities Newsletter

An opportunity to learn the time-tested and valuable skill of cob natural building, meet new friends, and build community with the PCC Newberg Center Learning Garden!

Cob natural building is an age old community building technique where people gather together and complete the project with the help of many hands. It’s also fun and a great skill to learn. You will be mixing clay, sand, straw, and water together with friends and then applying it onto the walls. Refreshments are served and laughter is encouraged. The cob structure, once finished, will serve as the community hub for PCC Newberg Center’s Learning Garden.

Please bring a water bottle and boots that can get muddy. How will YOU benefit from this project you may ask….

  • You’ll get experience working with people on a cob natural building project! You’ll meet people you may not otherwise get to interact with at PCC!
  • You’ll feel good about yourself for volunteering and contributing!
  • You’ll have firsthand understanding of the help that is necessary to get a sustainable community cob structure finished and ready to host community events!

About the Organization

The PCC Newberg Center Learning Garden is a place to learn about sustainable food systems, pollinators, seeds, caring for the environment, and building community. It is a community space, an active learning lab, a food producing garden, a place for wildlife and pollinator habitat, and serves as a tangible example of a permaculture-inspired food forest. The goal of the garden is to share knowledge and build community around plants, food, and nature.

About the Volunteer Opportunities Newsletter

The Volunteer Opportunities Newsletter allows students, faculty, and staff at PCC a more comprehensive look at volunteer needs and opportunities from our community partners. Our hope is that the newsletter will allow subscribers to stay better informed about community service opportunities in the tri-county areas of Portland, Oregon, as well as non-profit internships and scholarships available locally and nationally.
