About the Organization

Portland Fruit Tree Project (PFTP) is a grassroots nonprofit that provides a community-based solution to a critical and growing need: access to healthy food. By empowering neighbors to share in the harvest and care of urban fruit trees, we curb waste, strengthen communities, beautify urban spaces, and create sustainable ways for people to access locally-grown fruit.

In 2017, PFTP plans to organize 85 fruit tree harvesting events, which will bring together hundreds of volunteers to harvest 45,000 pounds of fruit that might otherwise go to waste. We will donate 50% of that fruit to local food banks, food pantries, and health clinics for people who need it most. PFTP will also continue to cultivate 5 (public) community orchards, where we will provide 75+ educational events focused on various aspects of organic fruit tree care.
