Volunteers needed to work with Middle and High School Students!

AVID VOLUNTEERS: AVID Volunteer Tutors are needed in all Beaverton middle and high schools for a minimum of one hour a week during the school day. Volunteers are needed in AVID elective classes to facilitate a student led tutorial group of seven or fewer AVID scholars under direct support of the AVID elective teacher. Volunteers can tutor at the school of their choice based on their availability and the school Tutorial schedule (Monday-Friday anytime between 7:45am-2:50pm).

POSITION DESCRIPTION: AVID Volunteer Tutors assist students to achieve their full potential by facilitating small tutorial groups that use questioning and collaborative learning techniques to help students develop answers to their questions on their own and by working with fellow students. You do not need to be an expert in a subject area to be a great tutor. We need tutors who can help the teacher organize groups, take notes, support students to ask questions of each other, and attend regularly throughout the year. Being a part of the AVID College Readiness System is highly engaging and its rewards are many. AVID Tutors contribute to a college going culture by changing the lives of students and putting them on a path towards college

TRAINING: Six hours of training is provided prior to volunteering and ongoing support is provided throughout the year. Multiple training sessions are offered at a variety of locations throughout the school year. Volunteers can register for training upon completion of the Community Volunteer Application and Background Check.
