Growing Gardens: Seed Delivery Assistants – February 2016

Posted by

We need YOUR support delivering 8-10 packets of seeds to gardeners in your neighborhood. This volunteering opportunity can be treated as an errand!

Each year Growing Gardens distributes over a 1000 packets of seeds to participants in our Home Gardens Program. We need volunteers to deliver seeds to N, NE and SE, Portland (including east Multnomah county) by car, bike, bus, foot or your favorite mode of transportation.

How it works: The home gardens team will assemble zip-lock bags of seeds for delivery. Each gardener will receive a zip-lock with 10-15 packets of seeds. Each zip-lock has an address on it. We will provide you with a map of the addresses. You get to deliver the seeds to about 10 home gardeners, by dropping the zip lock on their porch. The seeds will be carefully planted by home gardeners. The plants will be tended with care and the food will be eaten off the vines and made into healthy delicious meals for families in need.

About the Organization

To get at the root of hunger we build organic vegetable gardens in backyards, front yards, side yards and even balconies. We support limited-income households for three years with seeds, plants, classes, mentors and more. Our Lettuce Grow program brings garden education to inmates in correctional facilities and our Youth Grow after-school garden clubs grow the next generation of veggie eaters. Let’s increase fresh food access in Portland, join us.
